I sculpted this piece as an exploration into the beauty of an African friend of mine. I went through multiple versions, explorations and techniques to finally arrive at this size.
I started with a water-based clay version from which I took numerous molds and—with a lot of experimentation—ended up with this final partial portrait. If you are curious about the whole process, take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/UEVZLf5qGcI
I also used 3D technology to scan the completed bronze which enables me to produce it in different sizes.
This bronze portrait of an African woman represents the aspiration that all human beings deserve a life with dignity.
